Goodyear Fire Department Captain Dan Freiberg, who spent three weeks in the Ukraine doing humanitarian work with Team Rubicon, shares his experiences.
Team Rubicon is a nonprofit organization that uses the skills and experience of military veterans and first responders to provide aid during disasters and humanitarian crises across the globe, according to a story by KTAR News.
Freiberg worked with a team of 22 people to provide treatment, from physical and mental ailments, for internally displaced people in Ukraine.
Team Rubicon members spent many hours in bomb shelters with the air raid sirens sounding all night long preventing a good night’s sleep, according to Freiberg.
Freiberg used his vacation time with the department to volunteer, previously participating in missions with the nonprofit to Africa, Central America and Syria, according to KTAR news.
